“The Chinese education system, with its many merits, lacks the critical hands-on approach that is arguably one of the greatest benefits of the American education system…. Fortunately, we can change this reality. And, at VIPKID, that is exactly what we are going to do.”

Right now in China, demand for quality education is at an all-time high. Chinese parents know that exposure to the English language, as well as western culture, is an important factor in their child’s education. Language training centers in China abound, with after-school options ranging from one-hour programs to six grueling hours of flashcards and grammar. In fact, the children’s English education market has an approximated market value of over 3 billion US dollars, growing at a rate of more than 10 percent. Quality control, however, is a big problem for confused parents with too many mediocre options. The cost of these programs is enormous and a huge sacrifice for many middle class families. The lack of quality and high program fees, coupled with traffic and a grouchy, exhausted child, leave parents wanting more. Much more. And that is where VIPKID comes in.
VIPKID is a technology-driven education company, dedicated to bridging the gap between China and the west by providing a unique, quality program without the confusion and hassle. VIPKID offers online, American elementary school curriculum that is based on the Common Core State Standards for grades K through 5. VIPKID students meet with American teachers three times a week in a one-on-one online classroom. This online classroom model gives both students and teachers flexibility—as long as there is a computer and an internet connection, there is a class.
VIPKID doesn’t stop there. In order to reach the high language and content level of the Common Core State Standards, VIPKID supplements this online interaction with educational computer courseware. These games and activities are created by education professionals to cultivate interest, critical thinking, and creativity, as well as to meet language and content goals. VIPKID courseware is designed to combine the three most common learning styles—visual, auditory, and kinesthetic—in order to maximize learning and minimize boredom. At VIPKID, we give students experience with the technology that will one day be a very central part of their work and home life.
The Chinese education system, with its many merits, lacks the critical hands-on approach that is arguably one of the greatest benefits of the American education system. Modern Chinese parents see the need for these social and practical application skills, but programs practicing these approaches are virtually non-existent.
Fortunately, we can change this reality. And, at VIPKID, that is exactly what we are going to do.
