VIPKID is growing fast, and that’s in large part due to our wonderful community! Every day we’re welcoming new teachers to the platform, and many of them have been referred by our passionate teacher community in the U.S. and around the world.
So, we want to extend a genuine thank you to the teachers who love this opportunity so much they can’t help but spread the word. The enthusiasm and dedication is infectious.
Referrals aren’t just a feel-good opportunity, though—they’re also a great way for teachers to supplement their VIPKID income. For each referral who gets hired, teachers receive an upfront incentive as well as a bonus for each milestone the referral hits.
Read on for a refresher on how teachers can grow their roster of referrals, as well as tips for making referrals successful throughout the interview process.
Referring a New Teacher to VIPKID
To get started, log into your VIPKID Teacher Portal at www.vipkidteachers.com and click on the “Refer Now” button in the top right corner. From there, you’ll be able to choose from the following options:
- Copy your referral link
- Copy your referral code
- Write a postcard to a friend telling them about your VIPKID experience
Anyone who uses your referral link or code to apply is automatically marked as your referral. From the moment they sign up to the time they start teaching, you’ll be able to track their progress within your Referral Tracker.
Now that you have your personalized referral code, it’s time to start sharing! If you’re unsure where to find teachers to refer, it’s always a good idea to begin within your own network.
To reach the widest audience, you can share your referral link on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms. Email is another effective tool for telling your story and spreading the word to family and friends.
If your sights are set beyond your own personal connections, there are plenty of ways to reach potential teachers who you don’t even know yet. Go to events or organize a meetup for teachers from your district. Want to go big? Create a presentation at an education conference in your town. Get creative!
Keep in Mind that Teachers Must Meet These Basic Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree
- One year of full-time (40hrs/week) experience teaching, coaching, tutoring, or working with students
If your referral checks these boxes, they could be a great candidate to join the VIPKID teacher community!
So, what’s next?
Helping Your Referrals
No one understands the process better than you do, so staying in touch with your referrals and guiding them through the process is key to their success. Try these simple ideas to help your referrals through the interview process:
- Offer encouragement and support via email or video call
- Encourage them to attend a coaching day event
- Ask them to send you a short video teaching a few slides, so you can offer feedback.
- Help them prepare for the Demo Lesson and Mock Classes
Most importantly, don’t tell your referral what to do. Let them practice teaching on their own, then offer helpful, constructive feedback on how they can improve. Don’t script it for them!
