    • Lydia, please go to http://www.vipkidteachers.com to apply. That is how you start the application process! Carefully list any teaching, tutoring, mentoring, and childcare experience in the experience portion. We require a Bachelor’s Degree and 1 full-time school year of teaching experience or equivalent hours in teaching activities. Good luck, we hope you can join our teaching platform!

    • Larena,
The teaching positions are independent contractor contracts, so taxes are not taken out – you need to set aside taxes yourself to pay before the following April. Our teachers are all responsible for their own taxes, this is not under the table in any way, we submit who we pay and how much to the government, and they anticipate the taxes being paid by the teachers independently.

  1. Hi,
I got hired to teach. However my application wasn’t complete with all my Teaching experience and degrees- not sure if that would make a differnece. Also, I need to correct my last name on my application. How can I do this?

  2. This sounds like a GREAT opportunity for Teachers but to be honest…I’m a little nervous. I’m concerned about our hours lining up with the children overseas.

  3. I am very interested in this. Do you need to be bi-lingual? I have never taught ESL classes, but have had ESL students in my general ed classroom.

    • Thersa, you do not need to be bilingual, our teacher prep and proprietary curriculum will give you the tools you need to teach. Thanks!

  4. I am very interested in a position wit VIPKIDS. Do you need to be bilingual? I have never taught ESL classes but have had ESL students in my general ed classroom.

    • Thersa, you do not need to be bilingual – our curriculum and teacher prep will help you be able to use special ESL skills to teach without needing second language ability.

  5. Does home schooling your child count? Or do you honestly need 1 hour in a school setting to qualify. I have a BA and am currently doing my MBA.

    • Taj,
We require the equivalent of 1 school year of full-time(40hrs/wk) in teaching experience, if that can be substantiated in alternative education such as home-school teaching, mentoring, tutoring, counseling, structure pre-school, etc Thank you for your interest!

  6. I have at least three questions.
    1. Are there positions for music teachers?
    2. Do you have private tutoring positions needed for instrumentalists and vocalists?
    3. Do you have IB Music students in need of assistance?

    • Jerry, currently our curriculum is mainly English focused(as most of our students are in China and their goal is to learn English), in the upper-levels our curriculum becomes more diverse and common-core centered. That being said, we have many teachers that are professional music teachers and teach English on our platform as a “side-hustle” they greatly enjoy teaching our students English, and their experience and music skills definitely help them to be effective in our curriculum. Thank you for your interest!

  7. What type of teaching is this and what counts as teaching experience? I havea bachelor’s degree in history and have 2 children in elementary school and have volunteered in their classrooms and throughout the school for the past 5 years but am not an employee and do not have any “work experience.” Thank you for giving me a little more information.

    • Devony, if you can substantiate your hours to be roughly equivalent to 1 school year of full-time(40hrs/wk) teaching experience(your volunteer experience, any tutoring, mentoring, counseling, structure pre-school, and home schooling experience also counts). Hope this helps!

  8. I am taking a leave of absence from my current teaching position to care for my daughter. I expect this to last about 5-6 weeks. During this time I would like to work 10-15 hours per week. However, once I start back to work I will have to substantially decrease my hours. Is that okay? I noticed the minimum contract is 6 months.

Also, is there any support for claiming my taxes so that I can learn the proper way to do that? Do I simply contact a local tax office and explain this job and request information?

    • Dana, we allow our contractors to build their schedule as they see fit. We do however recommend informing us if you plan on not opening any class slots for an extended period of time. As for taxes, many teachers offer advice to each other, and most recommend setting aside 30% of each paycheck to pay in taxes when settlement season happens. Thank you for your interest!

  9. Do you accept applicants that have no Teaching degree but has 4 years experience as a Teachers Aid and 4 years exsperience as a Elementary teacher in a private school?

    • Karissa, we don’t require a teaching degree, but a Bachelor’s degree in any subject AND teaching experience. Thank you so much for your interest!

  10. It is very nice to know that my application is being considered as I have had a special affinity for children and looked after disabled ones for many years. So it shouldn’t be a case of learning “new tricks”! But there will be a lot to learn. Speaking slowly and clearly is what I’m doing for the older people in my life who are tending to become deaf!

  11. I don’t have a Bachelor’s degree but have over 20 years homeschooling teaching experience (early learning through high school). I am also a certified TEFL instructor and have 4 years experience working with Bridge Language School, Santiago, Chile. Could I be considered for an online teaching position?

    • Julie, unfortunately a Bachelor’s degree is a strict requirement for us. In China there is still no substitute for a bachelor’s degree unfortunately, and it saddens us that this frequently is a barrier for many talented teachers such as yourself. Thank you so much for considering us!

  12. Hello,

I have been teaching for three years. I have considered moving out of the traditional classroom, but I’m worried that VIPkid wouldn’t be able to fill my schedule enough. If I wanted to work a full 40 or 50 hour week, is there enough work for that?

    • Meredith, since we are still in the midst of back-to-school we have a fairly high demand for classes. During the school year, our classes stay pretty steady with steep drop-offs during Chinese New Year, and the 8 weeks of summer holiday. During that time there aren’t really many bookings. So please consider this if you are planning to leave the traditional classroom. This is an independent contractor position, so pay only comes as hours worked.

  13. I would appreciate the opportunity to teach from home and continue to have fun teaching kids. I am heading to apply now. Thanks.

  14. Hi. I just got through the first stage of the application process. Next step is to record a demo . Is there a time frame to complete this? As I understand, I’m allowed to record a demo at my convenience and then post it. Just wanted to confirm. Thanks and have a good one!

  15. Question, I have worked as an Adjunct Professor for a Technical College for 11 years now teaching MRI physics and procedures, part time. I do not have a teaching degree per say but do have an associates and am working on my BA in Leadership Medical Imaging. Would I qualify to teach for your site?

    • Beverly, unfortunately, we do require a Bachelor’s degree – we would love to have you apply once you have accomplished this as your experience looks impressive and the unique perspective you would bring to our online classroom would be impressive.

    • Terrie, VIPKID supplies the lessons and material – the pay rate ranges from $14-$22/hr depending on your interview performance, credentials, and other incentives.

    • Suzanne, we accept traditional teaching experience, structured homeschooling, tutoring, mentoring, school counseling, and other forms of educational childcare.

  16. I have my masters in education and have been subbing an average of four days a week for 8 Years. Does this count as educational experience?

    • Kim, this should count. We require the equivalent of 1 school year of full-time(40hrs/wk) teaching experience. If I calculate this correctly – this should count – just make sure to document this well in your experience portion of your application! Thanks for applying!

  17. I have my masters in education and have been subbing an average of four days a week for 8 Years. Does this count as educational experience?

    • Kim, we require 1 school year of full-time teaching experience. Your experience seems to be sufficient, make sure to document it well in the experience portion of your application.

    • Claudia, thank you for your inquiry – we currently are only seeking spoken English teachers, we are a young company however and our goal is to eventually reach every child, so please revisit us in the future!

  18. What do you need for the interview I have a laptop that has video/camera do I need headset too or can we just speak from the vid/cam? Thanks let me know

    • Jill,
We recommend a set of headphones for the interview in case of any white noise. It is very helpful – looking forward to seeing you online!

  19. I have a bachelors in Psych and a Masters in Adult Education. I am an Army veteran and my experience consists of training and teaching soldiers for 20 years. Would that qualify me or does my experience have to be specific with children and a school type environment?

    • Mariam, your experience does qualify – it does, however, help to have experience with children as our students are 4-12 years old. If you are still interested please feel free to apply!

  20. I’ve been teaching for 22 years & have a master’s degree in instructional technology. I have taught k-12 how much would I be paid an hour? Part time or full time?

    • Lisa, Our pay ranges from $14-$22 an hour and is based on demo lesson performance and experience. You can teach as little or as much as you want, our teachers control their schedule.

  21. I have a teaching degree and have several years of experience. I am currently taking a one year sabbatical. I am available at least five days a week. How many hours are available on average for someone to work? I would like to know what the minimum number of hours to expect are and what I would max out at.

    • Barry, we currently have quite a high booking rate – and your hours of availability are up to you. Teachers that teach on our platform are all independent contractors that set their own schedule. We recommend having at least 7.5hrs a week open during our peak times in order for parents to see you available when they are looking to book. We currently have over 80% booking for all our teachers. So chances are high!
